The editorial promise
Commerce with character.
Ecommerce is serious business. We believe the stories we tell about it can be useful, honest and funny enough to stay with you.
Mission, vision and values · Updated 30 September 2026
Our mission
We make ecommerce, retail, marketplaces and the technology reshaping them easier to understand—and harder to hide behind jargon. Through news, conversations, essays and satire, we find the story that matters, explain what it means, and give it a voice worth listening to.
We bring the perspective of people who have done the work: built businesses, wrestled with systems, served customers and lived with the consequences of a decision. The spreadsheet and the punchline both have a place here.
Our vision
We want The V Spot to become a trusted home for people trying to make sense of modern commerce. A place where experienced operators and curious newcomers can hear an informed argument, discover a different perspective and leave better equipped to think for themselves.
We want to make room for voices across markets and borders, including the people doing essential work far from the keynote stage. As the network grows, each show can have its own personality while sharing the same commitment to substance, curiosity and respect.
What we stand for
Facts at the centre
We check the premise before we sharpen the punchline. We distinguish what happened from what we think it means, acknowledge uncertainty and challenge claims that the evidence does not support. Giving a weak claim equal airtime does not make it stronger.
Independent judgement
We choose our stories and own our conclusions. Sponsors can support the work and participate in clearly identified creative partnerships. They do not purchase a favourable editorial verdict. We make relevant commercial relationships clear and retain responsibility for what we publish.
Humour with a purpose
Satire helps us expose the gap between the promise and the reality: the hype, the grand announcement, the acronym doing the work of an explanation. The jokes are ours; the underlying facts still need to hold up. Parody and invented comic scenarios should be recognisable as such.
Respect for people doing the work
We can challenge an idea, a decision or a marketing claim without treating the person behind it as disposable. Civility leaves plenty of room for a sharp question. We care about customers, teams and the human consequences behind the numbers.
Curiosity beyond the headline
We look for the machinery underneath: payments, logistics, platforms, incentives and the choices that shape a customer's experience. We ask who benefits, who carries the cost and what changes when a fashionable idea meets an actual business.
The willingness to do better
We make room for disagreement and change our minds when the evidence warrants it. When we get something wrong, we acknowledge it and correct it visibly. Trust is built in the follow-through.
How we want to be heard
Informed, curious and irreverent. Plainspoken enough to make a complicated subject accessible, and thoughtful enough to leave its complexity intact. We have opinions and explain the reasoning behind them. We want you to laugh, then find yourself thinking about the story later.
The V Spot news brings the satire. Operator conversations bring lived experience. Essays make space for a longer thought. New formats, including panels and games, earn their place by helping people understand or participate in the story.
